Polyurethane (PUR) is a large class of polymers containing more urethane group features in the main chain of the molecule. It is a polymer material between plastic and rubber. Properties of PU Elastomers: The properties of PU elastomers differ slightly from the properties of PU elastomers synthesized from plastic polyols. Polyester PU has high mechanical properties and good oil resistance, but its water resistance is poor. Polyether PU has better low temperature resistance and hydrolysis resistance than polyester, but its oil resistance and mechanical properties are slightly worse.
Mechanical properties of PU: The hardness of PU elastomer varies widely, from Shore A10 to D80, and elongation at break is as high as 600%~~800%. The highest Shore hardness of natural rubber is only A70, and the elongation at break is 550%. The PU elastomer has a higher tear strength and is 2 to 5 times larger than natural rubber. The PU elastomer has high resilience and good shock absorption. The PU elastomer has good wear resistance and is 3 to 10 times that of natural rubber.
